Laboratories

Main Laboratory

Equipment for water chemical and microbial analyses (70m2)

Hydraulic Laboratory

Experimental drinking water supply system (approx. 400m), experimental and educational equipment for filtration, coagulation, sedimentation processes (70 m2)

Biotechnology Laboratory

Rooms and chambers with specific conditions and climate (100 m2): separate microbiology rooms for work with specific microorganisms or work in microorganism-free environment; climate room with adjustable temperature and humidity for storage of sensitive equipment; anaerobic chamber to work with oxygen sensitive microorganisms.

Pilot Scale Systems

Pilot Scale Water Supply System

Pilot scale water supply system – with several pipe loops of polyvinylchloride and cast iron pipes (length 150m – DN 50 and 75mm, 200m – DN 25mm) with circulation pump, frequency controller, clear water reservoir (10 m3), and waste water reservoir (18 m3). This pilot is dedicated for drinking water discoloration, microbial regrowth and drinking water quality monitoring and contamination event detection studies, also for development of cleaning protocols applicable for drinking water decontamination from chemical/biological agents

Drinking Water Distribution Network Flushing System

Mobile drinking water network flushing prototype developed for discoloration minimization in real scale drinking water distribution networks. Used in numerous studies on drinking water discoloration in multiple drinking water supply systems. Equiped with flow and turbidity meters.

Pilot Scale Mobile Smart Biofilter System for Groundwater Treatment

Pilot scale drinking water treatment system equiped with smart and innovative biofiltration technology. Tested and applied for groundwater treatment.

Pilot Scale Biogas Production System

Mobile pilot scale biogas production system applied and tested for biogas production from diary wastes.

Pilot Scale Biofuel Production System

Pilot scale biofuel production system applied for biofuel production from agricultural waste.

Equipment

Most of our facilities you can find in UseScience. UseScience system was developed to catalogue, record and locate their kit effectively. UseScience contains laboratory equipment, ICT and specialist tools. Each item includes its specification, custodian, location,  access requirements, usage data and photos. By using UseScience organisations are able to work towards more efficiency, utilising the assets already in existence and lessening the need for duplication of material assets to become a more sustainable campus. Benefits include:

1. Reduced need for heating and occupation of additional space within buildings for duplicated equipment
2. Avoids unnecessary purchasing, manufacturing and shipping of products
3. Maximises opportunity for re-use of specialist equipment locally by HEIs, industry and Small to Medium Enterprises (SME).
