Green Technologies in Latvia: Academia and Business Interaction
On 15th June in Centre of Natural Sciences of the University of Latvia were the largest green business gathering in the Baltics – Baltic Green Innovation Forum 2016. The forum would be provided an opportunity to learn about trends and already achieved in «green» innovations in the Baltics, as well as informed about the funding opportunities for companies. Talis Juhna spoke about «Green Technologies in Latvia: Academia and Business Interaction».

Effect of labile organic carbon on growth of indigenous escherichia coli in drinking water
Linda Mezule were in IBIC 2016 fifth biannual event which were held from 10 to 13 April in the historic city, Bologna. IBIC 2016 covers topical issues in bio-production, bio-separation, and bio-detection. Latest research topics including nano-biotechnology, biorefinery and biofuels, biocatalysis, biomaterials, and microbial fuel cells. Linda Mežule in 11th April presented «Effect of labile organic carbon on growth of indigenous escherichia coli in drinking water».

Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations
May 31st our senior resercher Kamila Gruskevica received highly honored REHVA (Federation of European Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning Associations) Young Scientist Award in recognition of her outstanding scientific achievements and for her contributions to improve energy efficiency and indoor environment of buildings.
ICERE 2016 – International Conference on Environment and Renewable Energy
From 25th to 27th May Brigita Dalecka attended an international scientific conference «ICERE 2016 – International Conference on Environment and Renewable Energy» held in Munich, Germany. The purpose of the conference was to bring together innovative academics and industrial experts in the field of environment and renewable energy and exchanged with knowledge and experience. Brigita presented e-poster «Lignocellulose-degrading enzyme production from Irpex lacteus and Fusarium solani».

Known in the unknown
On Wednesday, 25th May, Sandis Dejus went to the Latvian radio house to participate in the program «Known in the unknown». With colleagues from the Latvian Internet Association, its Executive Director Viesturs Šeļmanovs-Plešs, they talked about equipment that monitors drinking water quality , and remote reading of water and heat meter .

From 18th to 20th May Kamila Gruskevica, Janis Rubulis and Sandis Dejus participated in Baltic water works conference 2016, held in cruise ship Tallink M/S Victoria I. Conference brings together municipal enterprises responsible for drinking water supply and sewerage collection and treatment; and industrial partners from Estonian, Latvian and Lithuanian.
In conferences plenary session Kamila Gruskevica spoked about «Drinking water quality effect on the corrosion of the cast iron pipes» and Janis Rubulis about «Drinking water network flushing: tool to save water quality». On 20th May after come back in Tallin all group visited Tallinn waste water treatment plant.

Sandis Dejus from 12th to 14th May participated in «The 8th Eastern European Young Water Professionals Conference», held in Poland Gdansk University of Technology. In 12th may he presented report «Long term drinking water quality monitoring in drinking water supply systems by on-line sensors».

From 12th to 13th May Brigita Dalecka, Linda Mezule and Kristina Tihomirova participated in an international scientific conference «Biosystems Engineering 2016» held in Tartu, Estonia. The goal of BSE 2016 was to gather scholars from all over the World to present latest advances in various fields of biosystems engineering. Conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with our latest research «Influence of mechanical pre-treatment on fermentable sugar production from lignocellulosic biomass» and «Main Limitations of hydrolysed hay sugar content analysis by HPLC-RI technique».

In Riga, Latvia from 5th till 7th May were «European Biotechnology Congress 2016». On Friday, 6th May, Linda Mezule delivered a report «Efficient, environmentally friendly techniques for lignocellulosic biomass pre-treatment/hydrolysis to produce liquid biofuels».
