On 15th of February took place «Ēnu diena 2017»

On 15th of February took place «Ēnu diena 2017». The Water Research Laboratory senior researcher Janis Rubulis shading by Daugavpils 9th Secondary School 12. B student Ruslans Sinicins and Riga Classical Gymnasium 11. A student Oskars Grinbergs. Students had the opportunity to get acquainted with the Water Research Laboratory, realized projects as well as to learn about the senior researcher daily work.

Ēnu diena is a world known and recognized «Junior Achievement» career education program 1 to 12th class students. During the course students attend a job and are interested in watching profession in working process. Ēnu diena is to introduce students to a variety of occupational and sectoral requirements in order to help young people to choose a profession and properly prepare for the labor market.

Water Research Laboratory scientists cooperate with SIA «Ādažu Ūdens» in wastewater treatment. The article in «Ādažu Vēstis» February 2017.

To test biofouling of membranes

Discussion before final design of Pomacea prototype «will go home» to Water research laboratory premises. The prototype is used and will be used to test biofouling of membranes. Water research laboratory team is looking for the pretreatment methods which decreases biofouling.

Brigita Dalecka will go to Sweden to start their studies

In the beginning of December, the RTU and KTH was signed the contract about common doctoral studies. In January of 2017 the Water Research Laboratory scientific assistant Brigita Dalecka will go to Sweden to start their studies.

Ministry of Economy visited RTU and also Water Research Laboratory

On 22 of December representatives of the Ministry of Economy visited RTU and also Water Research Laboratory. Head of Water research laboratory Talis Juhna to Ministry representatives presented our laboratory, telling about the research work and currently realized projects.

The general meeting of associations members

On 9th of December after the Latvian water and sewerage business associations invitation RTU Water Research Laboratory management participated in the general meeting of associations members. To the meeting participants RTU prof. Talis Juhna presented the Water Research Laboratory areas of research that could be of interest object of water companies in Latvia. So far, good cooperation has been established with Jelgava water Ltd, Liepaja water Ltd, Ogre municipality agency «Malkalne». The participants positively assessed the existing cooperation and agreed that further the RTU support water sectors project ideas and develop cooperation with industry representatives in water quality and water security. In the event their ideas and plans presented also by senior researcher Janis Rubulis and Sandis Dejus.

Children can’t feel the difference in taste between tap and bottled water

On 9th of November WRL members Brigita Dalecka, Viktorija Denisova, Sandis Dejus and Janis Rubulis visited kindergarten «Pienenīte» in Ulbroka, Stopinu district. During the visit laboratory members met more than 70 children with the interest on environmental and drinking water issues. The presentation about the sustainable usage of drinking water, the comparison between tap and bottled water quality and price and drinking water resources was performed by Sandis. Also the experiment on tap and bottled water taste comparison was carried out by girls. Experimental results showed that children can’t feel the difference in taste between tap and bottled water.

Climate-KIC Climathon climate change event

On 28th of October took place Climate-KIC Climathon climate change event (hack) which was held simultaneously in 121 cities around the world. Riga participants listened to the presentations about the issues and experiences and worked in teams, discussed, to choose the climate change problem the best solution.

RTU 57th international scientific conference

From 17th – 18th October RTU 57th international scientific conference was held within the framework of the round table discussion «Smart biotechnology». Water Research Laboratory presented their activities in the field of biotechnology and the discussion was to seek cooperation between science and industry.

The 33rd Worl Cultural Council Award Ceremony
