Baltic Water Works Conference 2017

International «Baltic Water Works Conference 2017» was held on 19th of May in the beautiful venue of Great Amber Conference Hall in Liepaja. The aim of the conference is to gather together the professionals from the Baltic States working in the water sector. Numerous presentations on various topics related to latest legislation, research, and design activities were held. Water Research Laboratory delegation promoted the expertise and services that might be offered to water utilities all over the Baltic States. Furthermore, Ph.D. student Alina Nescerecka presented her latest research «Biological instability in drinking water distribution networks».

Participated in the 8th international scientific conference «Biosystems Engineering 2017»

From 11th to 13th May Kristina Tihomirova, Linda Mezule, Martins Strods and Viktorija Denisova participated in the 8th international scientific conference «Biosystems Engineering 2017» held in Tartu, Estonia. The goal of BSE 2017 was to stimulate collaboration in various fields of biosystems engineering. Conference participants had the opportunity to get acquainted with our latest research «Hydrolysed biomass waste as a potential biosorbent of zinc from water» from K. Tihomirova, V. Denisova, L. Jaudzema and L. Mezule and «Alcohol recovery from fermentation broth with gas stripping: system experimental and optimization»  from M. Strods and L. Mezule.

On 10th of May Water Research Laboratory visited the students from Rigas 64th secondary school 2.c class.

2017 China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) Annual High Level Dialogue Conference

On 21th of September the head of Water Research Laboratory Talis Juhna spoke at the «2017 China Europe Water Platform (CEWP) Annual High Level Dialogue Conference» on opportunities for cooperation between the European Union and China.

Participated in the project POMACEA session in Frankfurt

On 09th of May, Talis Juhna participated in the project POMACEA session in Frankfurt, where the European partners explained the newly developed water purification technology to Indian partners. This technology will be approbated in India next year.

Participate in Waterchain project partner meeting

From 2th to 3th May Kristina Tihomirova and Linda Mezule visited Tallinn to participate in Waterchain project partner meeting. Project partners discussed about the progress of project activities, Waterchain handbook and future plans.

On 28th of April Water Research Laboratory senior researcher Kamila Gruskevica participated in RTU Absolventu diena.

Participants visited SIA «Ādažu ūdens»

On 27th of April Interreg project Village Waters participants visited SIA «Ādažu ūdens» waste water treatment plant, where the Riga Technical University Water Research Laboratory (RTU WRL) scientists within the Central Baltic sea region project «Pilot watersheds as a practical tool to reduce the harmful inflows into the Baltic Sea – WATERCHAIN CB50» developed and installed a pilot, eco-friendly bio-filter system for waste water treatment. Full biological filter system will be launched in May this year and will be tested for one year.

Project «Profession challenge in Europa-Be an architect of Your Future»

On 20th of April Water Research Laboratory visited the students and teachers from Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Cyprus and Bulgaria within Erasmus+ project «Profession challenge in Europa-Be an architect of Your Future». Our researchers Kristina Tihomirova, Viktorija Denisova, Sandis Dejus and Linda Mezule told about the laboratory work, about the quality of water and purification methods, microbiology.
