Recently we have undertaken PCR assay developments for analysis of pathogens. We use both conventional and real-time PCR. The challenges are to amplify low concentrations of nucleic acids, overcome the inhibition in biofilm/sonicated biofilm samples and keep the method as simple and inexpensive as possible.
